Once again the 3.4 S is the spec to go for at £44k. For some of course Porsche cars have to be the 911, and here it’s the ‘basic’ 3.6 Carrera that represents the best value car you can buy at £61k. Other models like the GT2, GT3 and Turbo may be faster against the stopwatch, but comfort is compromised on these narrowly-focused machines. They’re far more expensive too. Unless you do most of your driving on the racetrack, you’re unlikely to feel cheated by the 3.6’s 4.9-second 0-60 time and 180mph top speed. The Porsche 911 Targa and Cabriolet cars give you a fresh-air 911 experience for £73k or £70k. Despite grim press predictions, the Porsche Cayenne keeps finding buyers. No 4x4 is as fast as the £76k Turbo, but the 3.6 V6 is a relative bargain at £37k.
