The midrange GS challenges the 5-Series on build quality and refinement, if not on driver involvement, while the S-Class-rivalling LS is a mobile oasis in both 4.6-litre V8 and 5-litre V8 plus electric hybrid LS600h versions. Other Lexus hybrid cars like the RX400 SUV and the GS450h saloon blend petrol and electric power just as seamlessly. Don’t equate hybrid with boring or slow, either: the GS is a genuinely potent car.
